Gypsy jazz has been strong in recent years, with mant great recordings. Guitarist Birelli Legrene is one of the leading practitioners -- although his amazing talents extend beyond the genre and instrument (he can give the best Jaco Pastorius imitation you'll ever hear). He was scheduled to play this weekend with Tony DiFrancesco at the Iridium in New York, but had to cancel because of some visa issues. Stepping in is Larry Coryell.

Welcome to The Augmented Ear
- a blog to discuss everything about jazz. I've loved jazz in all it's forms for more than 30 years. Whether the smooth fingerstyle jazz guitar of Joe Pass or the chuckle in Cyrus Chestnut's piano, I love it all.
We'll talk about the sounds inside the music, maybe what's inside musicians heads. We'll see what's going on in Central Jersey's jazz scene, and talk about recordings new and old.
So, what's your flavor? Got a beef with boppers, or want to flame some fusion? Getting steamed over swing?
Stay tuned ...
